Useless remote

As soon as I used this remote my television started flicking on and off non stop with all functions frozen on the remote, I had to turn the television off at the power point to stop it flicking on and off constantly. As soon as I turned it back on it worked ok for a few minutes and then the flicking on and off started again.
I went through this process 5 or more times with the same result.
I ended up putting the batteries back in my old remote with the faded buttons and not a problem, just like the last fifteen years of using this Samsung television, no problems.
